The Book of Life, is our third and the last book of the series. It is the determinant document that borrows heavily from the Book of Records and the Book of Remembrance. The following questions will be answered : What is Contained in this book and how is it important in the eternal destiny of humanity?
What Does the Blessed Bible Say?
KJV Philippians 4:3
And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.
KJV Revelation 3:5
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
KJV Revelation 20:15
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
KJV Revelation 22:19
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
KJV Luke 10:20
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
A careful consideration of the above texts help us to have a few facts about the Book of Life:
The book of life contains the names of all who have ever entered the service of God.
Those whose names will be found in the book of life will preserve during the time of trouble.
Names Can be blotted out of the book of life.
Only those in the Book of life will be saved into the New Jerusalem.
With these facts, how important should we regard the book of life?
Everyone who has ever joined in the course of God has their names in the Book of life, but here is the great question : Will your name remain there when the work is done and the Sanctuary ministry is closed?
While God is promising not to blot out the names of the Overcomers, what will happen to the Ungodly, the coward and the disobedient who continuously fall headlong into temptations?
In the typical service, while the high priest was making the atonement for Israel, all were required to afflict their souls by repentance of sin and humiliation before the Lord, lest they be cut off from among the people. In like manner, all who would have their names retained in the book of life should now, in the few remaining days of their probation, afflict their souls before God by sorrow for sin and true repentance.– Christ In His Sanctuary 126.1
Because names can be deleted from the book of life, we have a solemn duty to to understand what it takes to have names remain there, and it is to remain in the service of God till the end of the age.
As the books of record are opened in the judgment, the lives of all who have believed in Jesus come in review before God. Beginning with those who first lived upon the earth, our Advocate presents the cases of each successive generation, and closes with the living. Every name is mentioned, every case closely investigated. Names are accepted, names rejected. When any have sins remaining upon the books of record, unrepented of and unforgiven, their names will be blotted out of the book of life, and the record of their good deeds will be erased from the book of God’s remembrance. The Lord declared to Moses: “Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.” Exodus 32:33. And says the prophet Ezekiel: “When the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, … all his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned.”– Christ In His Sanctuary 119.1
I will finish it with a piece of Music written by Mary Ann Pepper Kidder (USA, 1820-1905) Whose burden is the question ‘Is My written There?’
1. Lord, I care not for riches, neither silver nor gold
I would make sure of Heaven, I would enter the fold
In the book of thy Kingdom, with its pages so fair.
Tell me, Jesus, my Saviour, is my name written there?
Is my name written there,
On the pages white and fair?
In the book of thy Kingdom,
Is my name written there?
2. Lord, my sins they are many, like the sands of the sea,
But thy blood, O my Saviour, is sufficient for me;
For thy promise is written in bright letters that glow
Though your sins be as scarlet, I will make them like snow.
3. O that beautiful city with its mansions of light,
With its glorified beings in pure garments of white;
Where no evil thing cometh to despoil what is fair;
Where the angels are watching, yes, my name is written there.
Yes, my name’s written there,
On the pages white and fair,
In the book of thy Kingdom,
Yes, my name’s written there.
