Three Important Books Part 2: The Book of Records

Record keeping is an indispensable aspect of any entity. All companies have their records well kept so as to monitor their performance. In every serious institution a record is safely kept of every transaction that takes place there. Records help to monitor growth or activities of an entity. Records help us to know who has come in and who has gone out. Records can help us deduce the improvement exhibited by an individual, an institution or a company. If you do away with the records, then your situation analysis cannot be trusted.
Which institution is more serious than the government of God? All governments of the world are simply trying to copy God. That’s why you will see some governments trying to be very democratic and quite understanding. They are moving towards ideals and people can be safe being subjects.
At the very foundation of God’s government is Holiness and Justice. Only with God can mercy and justice co-exist peacefully. We have seen that a book of remembrance is safely kept in Heaven for immortalization of our acts of mercy and righteousness. There’s no act of love that escapes the God of love. Nevertheless, the justice of God demands that He also be aware of our other side. He does not assume and ignore our revelry. So how does He handle rebellious acts and iniquity?
Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.KJV Isaiah 65:6-7

I think this is supposed to call us out of presumption. All our actions are recorded with those who cannot make mistakes. Any selfish action we do will one day confront us where we need only to claim righteousness. So what is the book of Records all about?

Every man’s work passes in review before God and is registered for faithfulness or unfaithfulness. Opposite each name in the books of heaven is entered with terrible exactness every wrong word, every selfish act, every unfulfilled duty, and every secret sin, with every artful dissembling. Heaven-sent warnings or reproofs neglected, wasted moments, unimproved opportunities, the influence exerted for good or for evil, with its far-reaching results, all are chronicled by the recording angel.

– Christ In His Sanctuary 118.1

Which book can be more sobering than the book of records? It is so detailed, it is even concerned with the tenor of our influence. We tend to exert an influence either for right or wrong. What about the acts of selfishness? Inhumanity of man towards man is on another level. The recording angels have an unbiased record of all these. Everything sinful and inconsistent with God’s intention for mankind is recorded as a witness against us. Acts of laziness and unimproved opportunities, egregiously stand against us. We will meet them again in the sweet by and by. I think with this in mind, we should be afraid to commit anything that we don’t want to meet again in the books of heaven. We can’t afford to be careless, times are solemn.
How does your record stand in the ledger of Heaven?
