Four Things Which Defies the Omnipotence of God

One of the attributes of God which stands out is that of His omnipotence. There is nothing too hard for God. Those things which push the most powerful institutions and agencies to a point of utter discomfiture, are nothing before God. The most mind boggling and enigmatic situations He can unravel with ease. In fact, when people have reached a point where medical prowess and intellectual fulfillment is useless, God knows what can be done to get us out of the conundrum. Natural World reveals His power and great architectural designs. When natural phenomena is left uncontrolled by His invisible hand, then Katrina and tsunami move among us and destroy our works mercilessly. God’s power is even seen in the mystery of redemption, for ‘Let there be a Saint’ requires the very life of God. But what are these four things which defies the Omnipotence of God?

1. God Cannot Lie.

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

-KJV Numbers 23:19

God Cannot lie. God does not know the formula of lying. His word is a surety. It’s an unwarranted move to quibble and murmur upon His promises and directives. Unfortunately, there is a worrying degree of trust issues that many people have with God. When God presents Himself as the creator, we demand an empirical evidence to believe Him, or else we defend Darwinism. If God institutes a matrimonial union between a man and a woman, we find ourselves too sophisticated and civilised to trust His formula, and so we have a lot of gymnastic orientations. Did God Lie? If there is something that all human beings must learn, is to trust God without unwarranted skepticism.

2. God Cannot Change.

For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed

– KJV Malachi 3:6

God cannot change. His first answer is the correct one and He doesn’t need to think well and find something else. In human interactions, we see countries amending their constitutions every now and then.
People have gone overboard, they are attempting to amend God’s law. For instance, Constantine amended the Worship requirements on March 7th in AD 321, to accommodate Apostate constituents of the Roman empire. Doctrinal documents of Some Christian Denominations Have unbiblical enumeration of the Ten Commandments. {Check your Church’s Catechism}. All these behaviours suggests that God didn’t know what He was doing. It suggests that God needs proofreaders and opinion shapers. But to all the opinion shapers and proofreaders, I would say, go slow. God knows what He is doing. Leave His constitution alone. Leave His institutions alone. He requires obedience, not amendments!

3. God Cannot Force Obedience

A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name? Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible. And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

– KJV Malachi 1:6-8

God is pouring His heart out to a people bent in disobedience. God knows He deserves a better treatment than the one offered by His own people. He knows He deserves a better deal than the one we are willing to sign. Calvary tells how much He values relationships. While He deserves better, He cannot force it out of the His sons who turned out to be Spiritual renegades. It’s free will. He reveals His goodness and then gives us the freedom to choose the response. While Calvary reveals an Act of God, our legal institutions attach Tsunamis and Hurricanes to acts of God! Ye can choose to obey or otherwise, but you cannot choose the consequence of your actions!

4. God Cannot Save Anyone Against their Will.

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

– KJV Hebrews 2:3

As a Creator, God seeks no permission. But as a Saviour, he cannot do whatever He likes. We have the freedom to choose the Devil and reject Him. It is this attribute that makes God God. He has revealed His goodness to us, yet He cannot blackmail us to respond in a given way. How we respond to the Saviour’s death on Calvary is own. How we respond to God’s super abundant grace is our own. He cannot influence our decisions, but He will always give us a reason to choose Him.

  1. Point 4 has just reminded me of the story of king Ahaz God used all avenues to bring him to realization of his salvation but Ahaz was much more comfortable in that God couldn’t lower His standards to reach him. A willing heart is all that is needed of us. Thanks for always feeding our spiritual hunger.
